Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has drawn the ire of federal immigration officials with her brazen declaration that the city will continue releasing illegal immigrants wanted by ICE, openly defying the law.
At a glance:
• Boston Mayor Michelle Wu stated ICE detainers will not be honored without judicial warrants
• Wu spent $650,000 of taxpayer money on legal assistance for her congressional hearing
• ICE official Tom Homan threatened to “bring hell” to Boston over its sanctuary policies
• Republican lawmakers criticized sanctuary city mayors for “creating sanctuary for criminals”
• Wu claimed Boston cooperates with ICE on criminal matters but not on deportations
Wu Defies Federal Immigration Enforcement
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu brazenly declared that her city will continue releasing individuals sought by Immigration and Customs Enforcement unless the federal agency provides proper judicial warrants. The Democrat Mayor made these comments during an interview on Boston Public Radio, where she received a standing ovation from the liberal audience for her defiance of federal immigration authorities.
Wu’s statements follow her contentious congressional testimony where she was grilled by Republican lawmakers about Boston’s sanctuary city policies. Republican Representative Byron Donalds has since delivered a blistering rebuke of Wu’s policies during a heated exchange that exposed the dangerous consequences of Boston’s approach to illegal immigration.
“ICE is choosing not to go and get these criminal warrants,” Wu claimed during the radio interview, attempting to shift blame onto federal authorities rather than acknowledging her city’s refusal to cooperate with immigration enforcement. Surely she knows this just…isn’t true.
🚨 Boston Mayor Wu is playing games with our safety!
Releasing criminals because ICE won’t chase them? That’s pure madness!
This isn’t about compassion; it’s about chaos.
We need leaders who prioritize American lives, not lawbreakers.

Federal Officials Promise Consequences
Former ICE Director Tom Homan, recently appointed by President Trump as “Border Czar,” has directly threatened to “bring hell” to Boston over its sanctuary policies. And he won’t be backing down any time soon.
Wu has acknowledged the threats, but doubled down on her position during the recent radio interview.
“I mean, this is extremely serious, and as much as it can seem like a sort of show or production when you’re watching it, these are… Congress has power, and people who are in the federal government have real power to enact consequences on federal funding,” Wu said.
Representative James Comer, Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, has since blasted sanctuary cities like Boston for creating policies that “only create sanctuary for criminals.” His statement directly contradicts Wu’s claim that Boston’s policies make the city safer – and only one of them is right. Guess which one!

Taxpayers Fund Wu’s Legal Defense
Boston taxpayers were forced to shoulder a $650,000 legal bill to prepare Wu for her congressional testimony defending the city’s sanctuary policies. The exorbitant expenditure raises questions about the mayor’s priorities when Boston faces numerous challenges including rising housing costs and crime concerns.
During her congressional testimony, Wu struggled to answer basic questions about the costs associated with illegal immigration in Boston. Republican Representative Nancy Mace confronted Wu with her past statements, exposing inconsistencies in the Mayor’s position on immigration enforcement.
Tick tock, Mayor Wu – the law comes for everyone eventually!
