Dallas Police Arrest Motorcyclist for Shooting 2-Year-Old

Texas police have arrested a 50-year-old man for shooting a two-year-old in a road rage incident. The incident happened near Interstate 30 in Dallas when a Door Dash delivery vehicle almost clashed with Jason Cain, who was riding his motorcycle. The car’s driver honked at Cain, who reacted by reaching for a gun and firing at the car, shooting a child in the back seat.

Witness Jessica Huseman, who heard the shots from her home, dashed outside to find the child’s mom running from the car, screaming, “They shot my baby.” Huseman called 911 after seeing the backseat was covered in blood. Additional witnesses told responding police officers they saw a man fleeing the area on a motorcycle with a sidecar attached and a dog inside.

Some residents told police they saw the man fire at the woman’s car twice, while others could identify him as Mr. Cain, who lives locally. Meanwhile, when officers spoke to the alleged shooter, he told them that “drug dealers” had shot the child. He told Huseman the same thing when she encountered him, and at first, she believed him, saying, “I didn’t assume that one of my neighbors had shot a baby.”

Police documents reveal that officers saw video evidence of the incident and, after searching Cain’s home, recovered several firearms as well as satanic and Nazi symbols.

The suspect was charged with one count of causing injury to a child and three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and is held on $850,000 bond. The child is recovering in hospital.

A media investigation in July found that the number of road rage incidents in the United States jumped by over 400% between 2014 and 2023. California has the highest number of “confrontational drivers” in the country, followed by Missouri and Utah. Nationwide, 41% of drivers say they have witnessed road rage, 32% say they’ve experienced it, while 22% admit that they have felt or reacted with rage to interaction with fellow motorists.

Most road rage incidents occur on highways or freeways, followed by city streets in second place.
