Escaped ‘Christmas Day Killer’ Recaptured in North Carolina

Notorious Christmas day killer Ramone Jamarr Alston, who is well-known for shooting a 1-year-old child to death on Christmas 2015, was rearrested after successfully managing to flee the prison.

As he escaped, Charles Blackwood, the Orange County Sheriff, noted that he personally knew Alston’s father and always thought that the escapee was a troubling child prone to criminal activities. Blackwood further revealed that he started committing crimes when he was a child, adding that he is an extremely dangerous individual who has nothing to lose.

According to the Sheriff’s office, Alston removed his leg restraint quickly while he was visiting the UNC Hospitals Hillsborough Campus for a scheduled medical checkup early in the morning. The officers were trying to remove Alston from the vehicle when he staged the escape and ran toward nearby woods. Both the officers present at the scene tried to chase Alston down with no success. The hospital from where Alston managed to escape is located nearly two hours of drive away from the correctional facility.

After an extensive manhunt, Alston was arrested with the help of the FBI SWAT team from a hotel in Cloverleaf Parkway in Kannapolis, almost 100 miles away from where he escaped. The authorities noted that some of Alston’s family members and friends also reside in the same locality.

Back in 2015, Alston was driving on December 25 when he opened fire in an apartment, and the bullet struck the head of a minor girl playing with her toys while in the hands of her mother. After killing the minor, Altson was slapped with a life sentence in prison.

The police also arrested Jacobia Crisp, who was possibly involved in helping Alston flee the jail. She now faces multiple charges, including helping a fugitive person evading prison, although it remains unclear how Crisp helped Altson escape the detention facility and what is the relationship between the two of them. The investigators only revealed that Crisp drove Alston around, but did not give the details about the nature of the drive or when did that happen.

Meanwhile, Alston’s legal troubles will only increase now as he faces new charges of felony escape and braces to appear in a series of court hearings in the upcoming months.

The law enforcement was mobilized immediately after the escape and reportedly searched 500 acres of area around the prison, and even announced a reward of $35,000 to anyone who could give conclusive leads to police about Alston’s whereabouts.
