According to court documents, Buma printed approximately 130 files marked with security warnings from the FBI’s internal systems. These documents allegedly contained highly sensitive information about the FBI’s investigations into a foreign country’s weapons of mass destruction program.
Hypocrisy Exposed as Trump Critic Faces Justice
The case highlights glaring double standards in how classified information has been handled during the Trump administration versus those critical of it. Buma had previously accused the FBI of having political bias, filing a whistleblower complaint in January 2022 alleging “numerous acts of intelligence suppression” and retaliation for raising concerns.
In a remarkable display of self-importance, Buma described himself as “the most significant whistleblower in FBI history” in a draft of his memoir. The irony is not lost on conservatives who have long pointed to institutional bias within the FBI, as Buma now stands accused of the very type of security violations he might have criticized in others.
Buma’s attorney, Scott Horton, has denied any wrongdoing and claimed no classified information was found during the raid on his client’s home.
Deep State Connections Revealed
The investigation into Buma began during the Biden administration, with authorities conducting a raid on his home in late 2023. Despite claiming to be “at my wits’ end” over alleged political bias within the FBI, Buma himself appears to have been politically motivated in his actions.
Buma previously spoke to Business Insider about alleged political bias in handling sensitive cases, including those involving Hunter Biden and Rudy Giuliani. In a September 2023 interview, Buma claimed his FBI superiors dismissed his concerns when he warned them that Rudy Giuliani might have been compromised in a Russian counter-influence operation.
Following his court appearance in Brooklyn, Buma was released on $100,000 bail, with his case set to be transferred to federal court in California. If convicted of the single count of disclosure of confidential information, Buma faces a potential one-year prison sentence. But is that enough?
