(NewsGlobal.com)- According to a series of tweets by writer Matt Taibbi, James Baker, the former FBI lawyer authorizing the defective Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant used to spy on the Trump campaign, also helped conceal the Hunter Biden laptop story.
According to reports, Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, published the so-called “Twitter Files” on Friday afternoon, outlining how the social media network suppressed a New York Post report regarding Hunter Biden’s laptop in 2020. The Twitter data provided on Friday showed executives collaborating with Biden officials to bury the news.
According to Taibbi’s tweets, Baker, Twitter’s Deputy General Counsel at the time, claimed that it was logical to infer the documents may have been fake and that caution was necessary. Baker stated in an email to Taibbi that some data suggest that the documents were hacked, while others suggest that the computer was abandoned or the owner agreed to allow the repair company to access it for some reason.
Baker did not appear to take the same level of diligence when approving the FISA warrant used to eavesdrop on the Trump campaign, which was based on inaccurate information.
Reports show that Baker previously worked as the FBI’s general counsel and testified in 2018 that he examined Carter Page’s FISA application. In August 2016, FBI investigators obtained a FISA warrant against Page. The FBI’s lawyers rejected the plan, requiring more evidence to back up suspicions that Page was a Russian agent before approving the warrant.
The FBI approved the order after former British spy Christopher Steele gave the FBI six memos from the now-infamous “Steele dossier” in September 2016.
Investigative reports show that the Justice Department’s inspector general (IG) later issued a report detailing 17 significant omissions and irregularities in the Page FISA applications. According to the report, the FBI relied extensively on the Steele dossier but failed to corroborate any of its assertions.
Following charges that he disclosed secret information to the media, the Justice Department launched an investigation into Baker. Baker stepped down from the agency in 2018. Baker was then hired as Twitter’s legal counsel in June 2020.
Elon Musk, the new CEO of Twitter, has fired James Baker for “information suppression.”
I wonder how many more federal stooges like Baker are still working for Twitter?
