“Fixer Upper” Star Went To The Hospital For A Surgery

(NewsGlobal.com)- Last week, Joanna Gaines opened up about the chronic back injury for which she underwent surgery in mid-December.

The “Fixer Upper” star posted a photo on Instagram last Thursday featuring her flashing the peace signs from a hospital bed. She later posted a picture of her and her 4-year-old son Crew cuddling together on the couch.

In her Instagram post, the 44-year-old Gaines revealed that she injured her back while cheerleading in high school which has caused her problems “ever since.”

In 2001, Gaines had a microdiscectomy around the time she first started dating her now-husband Chip. She revealed that she had the same surgery on another disc in mid-December.

Joking that her back injury always plays up at inconvenient times, Gaines said she was stressed about undergoing surgery right before the holidays.

However, Gaines said she was “grateful for the forced rest during the busiest time of the year.” She said having to “stay put” has been a gift to her, allowing her to “stare at the wonder all around” and “be still.”

In November, Gaines told People Magazine that it wasn’t until she reached her 40s that she learned to appreciate being spontaneous, especially after having her youngest child, Crew.

She recounted a time when Crew asked her to lie down on the ground beside him to watch ants. At first, Gaines begged off, telling her son that she was able to see the ants from where she was standing.

Finally, she relented and plopped down on her belly beside him just as her husband Chip arrived home with their other children.

When Chip saw her on the ground, he honked to see if she was okay thinking she had fallen, “because Mom doesn’t normally do that.”

Gaines told People that she realized that “joy comes from unplanned moments” and she was glad that she didn’t miss that one.
