(NewsGlobal.com)- Georgia Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker has long railed against fatherless homes and deadbeat dads causing problems among African Americans.
Now, the former football star at the University of Georgia and in the NFL was revealed to have another child that he hasn’t spoken about before.
Walker has often spoke glowingly of his son Christian, 22, while he’s been out on the campaign trail. He has in a way used Christian as a way to back up his point that many of the issues Black communities face today are due to fatherless homes.
Earlier this week, thought, The Daily Beast reported that Walker has another son — a 10-year-old who he doesn’t really have any contact with at all. Not long after the birth of the baby, the mother of the boy had to sue Walker to force him to recognize the fact that he was his father.
According to The Daily Beast report, the boy’s mom sued Walker one year after the birth of her baby so that she could get a declaration of paternity that would lead to child support. The media outlet cited public court records that show that Walker was his father.
A separate source that the outlet cited said Walker sends his 10-year-old son birthday and Christmas presents, but doesn’t play any active role in raising the child. In fact, the 10-year-old hasn’t met Christian or even spoken with him once.
That report led a lot of people to lambast Walker for trying to take the stance of railing against fatherless homes and deadbeat dads when he, essentially, is one himself. In response to all the vitriol, Scott Paradise, the manager of Walker’s campaign, said:
“Herschel had a child years ago when he wasn’t married. He’s supported the child and continues to do so. He’s proud of his children. To suggest that Herschel is ‘hiding’ the child because he hasn’t used him in his political campaign is offensive and absurd.”
This second child is not the only black mark from Walker’s past that has to do with his family. He has had to deal with allegations of disturbing behavior and domestic violence to his ex-wife.
In defending Walker during his conversation with The Daily Beast, Paradise also pointed out that his opponent in the U.S. Senate race, Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock, is also facing a child support case with his ex-wife. His former wife is trying to get more money out of Warnock for child support.
As Paradise explained:
“Raphael Warnock is currently engaged in both a nasty mudslinging campaign and a nasty custody dispute with his ex-wife. He is trying to hide it from voters by sealing the case and even tried to hide from authorities. This is a complete double standard.”
Warnock’s campaign would have none of that. Following Paradise’s comments being released, Meredith Brasher, who serves as the communications director for Warnock, said:
“Reverend Warnock is a devoted father who is proud to continue to co-parent his two children as he works for the people of Georgia.”
