IRS Raids Famous Restaurant

(NewsGlobal.com)- Agents from the Internal Revenue Service raided a popular New Jersey restaurant last Thursday.

Calloway’s Restaurant and Bar in West Creek was raided by the IRS Thursday morning. According to eyewitnesses, yellow police tape was seen across both of the two parking lot entrances to Calloway’s Bar and Restaurant Thursday morning, and a law enforcement officer was spotted wearing body armor in front of one of the lots.

Criminal investigation officials from the Internal Revenue Service confirmed the raid. According to owner Chris Rossiter, the agents took away some paperwork and left.

While Rossiter would not discuss the details with the press, he conceded that the IRS was checking the restaurant’s books against their books, “and that’s it.”

IRS officials and Waretown Police confirmed that a search was also conducted at a location in Waretown. Another law enforcement official confirmed that the search conducted in Waretown was Chris Rossiter’s residence.

On its Facebook page Thursday, Calloway’s posted a notice thanking customers for their concern and reiterating that the restaurant was still in operation.

In recent months, several South Jersey restaurants have been charged with tax offenses, harboring illegal aliens, making false statements to investigators, and conspiracy.

Khan was also charged with three counts of income tax evasion, one count of harboring illegal aliens, one count of employing illegals, and one count of making false statements to the IRS and FBI.

Ali Khan of Clementon was also charged with one count of conspiracy to evade income taxes; 10 counts of failing to collect, account for, and pay over payroll taxes for two Crown Fried Chicken restaurants, three counts of income tax evasion, one count of harboring illegal aliens, and one count of unlawful employment of aliens.
