Kamala Harris Blames Republicans For The Border Crisis

(NewsGlobal.com)- Vice President Kamala Harris, who was anointed the border czar, blamed the Republican Party for the migrant crisis the country is experiencing at the southern border.

In an interview with NPR recently, Harris said:

“Sadly, what we have seen in particular, I am sad to say, from Republicans in Congress is an unwillingness to engage in any meaningful reform that could actually fix a lot of what we are witnessing.”

Of course, Harris hasn’t witnessed much of the migrant crisis at all, since she’s only made one trip to the southern border with Mexico since she was put in charge of the migrant crisis back in March of 2021.

In this fiscal year alone, border authorities had 2.4 million encounters with people, which was a new record.

Harris made these comments just a few weeks after her boss, President Joe Biden, said there are “more important things going on” than taking trips to the southern border, even though there’s been a record increase in illegal immigration since he took office.

Republicans have pointed to Biden administration immigration policies as the reason for this huge surge in migrants. Specifically, they blame the White House’s attempt to repeal the Trump-era rule called Title 42, which decreased the number of asylum seekers who are allowed to be in the U.S.

It was put in place due to concerns of COVID-19 spreading.

On Monday, Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts ordered that Title 42 remain in place temporarily. If he hadn’t done that, it would’ve expired Wednesday.

Oscar Leeser, the Democratic mayor of El Paso, Texas, said recently that there are 20,000 migrants who are waiting in Mexico for Title 42 to expire so that they can stream across the border.

Border agents had 230,000 encounters in September of this year alone, which was a new monthly record. Just law week, there were more than 1,000 who crossed into Texas, which marked the “largest caravan in history.”

Many Republicans governors have attempted to do other things to compensate for the fact that they aren’t getting much federal support for the problems they’re facing with immigration.

Greg Abbott, the Republican governor of Texas, for instance, has re-started construction of the border wall. He also deployed 400 members of the National Guard to help with the surge of migrants.

On Monday, he also deployed the “contingency border force,” which will help address all of these illegal immigrants. As he said last week:

“More border wall is going up next month. It took months to negotiate with private property owners on the border for the right to build on their property.”

In Arizona, Republican Governor Doug Ducey has installed hundreds of large shipping containers along his state’s border with Mexico. They’re stacking them two high to serve as a de facto border wall, preventing illegal immigrants from crossing into Arizona.

The Biden administration has actually sued Arizona for constructing this wall. Katie Hobbs, who is the Democratic governor-elect in Arizona, has said that she opposes the shipping containers.
