(NewsGlobal.com)- According to a recent survey, Vice President Kamala Harris would prevail against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in a potential 2024 presidential contest, but the result would be very close.
According to a survey conducted by the Harvard University Center for American Political Studies (CAPS), Harris has 39 percent support against the Republican governor’s 37 percent.
However, those margins are razor-thin, and according to the Harris survey, 23 percent of respondents couldn’t decide between DeSantis and Harris.
Between June 28 and 29, the survey was carried out among 1,308 registered voters.
Even though the 2020 primary season won’t start until early 2024, there have been a lot of talks that President Biden won’t run for reelection given his advanced age.
The vice president is widely seen as Biden’s logical successor should he decide to stand down. Even though Biden would be 81 in 2024, the White House has maintained that he intends to run again.
According to the study, 71% of respondents agreed that Biden should not run for office again, with 26% stating it was time for a change, 30% noting his age, and 45% calling him a “poor president.”
However, Harris received some encouraging news regarding the Democratic primary elections of 2024. She came in second place to Biden among Democratic voters, receiving 18% of the vote to the president’s 30%.
Harris emerged as the clear front-runner with 25% support when Biden was dropped. It’s interesting to note that Hillary Clinton, the 2016 Democratic nominee and former secretary of state, came in second place with 15% of the vote.
Although Clinton has already stated she won’t run for office again, rumors regarding her future have persisted.
Similar results were seen among Republican voters, with former President Donald Trump leading with 56 percent of the vote and DeSantis trailing with only 16 percent.
The Florida governor was the most well-liked option, albeit Trump was not an option. DeSantis received 36% support among GOP voters compared to Mike Pence, the former vice president, who received only 17%.
DeSantis and Pence have been mentioned as prospective contenders for the White House, but Trump has often intimated that he may run for president again in 2024.
According to the survey, in fictitious elections in 2024, Trump would triumph against both Biden and Harris. Biden received 40% of the vote, while Trump received 43%, with 17% unsure.
Trump outperformed Harris in a fictitious contest, winning 45 percent of the vote to Harris’ 39 percent, with 16 percent of respondents uncertain.
DeSantis is now running for reelection as governor of Florida, and none of the potential 2024 contenders have officially declared their presidential bids. That is his present objective. He has stated time and time again.
However, until he makes an official announcement, probably more than a year away, Biden’s age and the fact that he has had a chronically low popularity rating will continue to be a source of rumors.
