Constitutional Amendment Proposed for Third Trump Term

Representative Andy Ogles, a Republican from Tennessee, has introduced a resolution to amend the U.S. Constitution, potentially paving the way for former President Donald Trump to serve a third term in office. The proposal seeks to modify the 22nd Amendment, which has limited presidents to two terms since its ratification in 1951.

Ogles, a member of the Trump-aligned House Freedom Caucus, argues that Trump’s leadership is essential for national revitalization. The proposed amendment would allow a President to serve three terms, provided that no more than two are consecutive. This change would specifically benefit Trump, who is currently serving his second non-consecutive term.

In explaining his motivation for the amendment, Ogles emphasized Trump’s unique ability to address national challenges and argued that he needs more time to push through his agenda.

He stated, “President Trump has proven himself to be the only figure in modern history capable of reversing our nation’s decay and restoring America to greatness, and he must be given the time necessary to accomplish that goal.”

“To that end, I am proposing an amendment to the Constitution to revise the limitations imposed by the 22nd Amendment on presidential terms. This amendment would allow President Trump to serve three terms, ensuring that we can sustain the bold leadership our nation so desperately needs,” he continued.

Ogles also criticized the previous administration, stating, “Joe Biden took a blowtorch to our reputation these past four years, and before even taking office, President Trump is telling the world that America First is back. American economic and security interests will no longer take a backseat, and House Republicans are ready to help President Trump deliver for the American people.”

The proposed amendment is set to face significant hurdles. Changing the Constitution requires two-thirds support from both houses of Congress or state legislatures, followed by ratification by three-fourths of state legislatures or conventions. Given the current political landscape, achieving such widespread support seems unlikely.

Critics, including Democratic representatives, have expressed strong disapproval of the amendment, viewing it as an attempt to normalize unconstitutional ideas and undermine the foundations of American democracy.

But this is probably the first time the Democrats have ever suggested that the Constitution should remain unchanged. They’re always talking about amending it – and Biden even claimed he did amend it for a 28th time upon leaving the White House!
