(NewsGlobal.com)- Newt Gingrich, who served as Speaker of the House previously, has proposed that instructors who are willing to be trained and carry guns to defend students in schools should receive an additional $500.
On Wednesday, Republican Newt Gingrich suggested to Laura Ingraham of Fox News that each school needs to have specific staff members who are trained and would receive extra pay.
His remarks come in the wake of a tragic massacre at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, that resulted in the deaths of 19 children and two adults. The suspect was shot and killed by law enforcement officials at the site.
According to Gingrich, every school in the country should have five or ten people paid $500 a month or more extra—that would be a rational federal program—to pay every teacher willing to be trained and armed to protect the children—teachers and administrators.
Gingrich said that this isn’t the type of discourse we have. We are all caught up in some sort of high political nonsense, which is being led by Joe Biden, who, in his opinion, made a complete fool of himself during what was supposed to be an important national statement.
The ex-congressman said that there aren’t many political people who want to get involved in that level of change, but he’s thrilled to debate what it would take to fix these things.
Gingrich’s plan seems to refer to the idea that “the only thing that stops a bad man with a gun is a good guy with a gun,” as was notably said by the executive vice president of the National Rifle Association (NRA) after the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012.
Gingrich’s idea was panned by the Washington Post. They called it “one of the worst school-shooter plans yet.”
They did the math, which would cost around 4 billion dollars a year.
Buyback all the AR15s in the country. That would only be a one-time cost of 14 billion dollars.
That they think everyone would sell their guns to the government and that only AR15s are responsible for mass shootings is stunningly stupid.
