Ocasio-Cortez Confesses To Breaking Federal Law

(NewsGlobal.com)- Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) confessed that she violates financial disclosure rules through her spokeswoman.

Ocasio-Cortez was supposed to submit her 2021 funds on Aug. 13. As of Wednesday morning, the public does not know the status of Ocasio-Cortez’s finances, and a spokesman claimed she is in no hurry to file her declaration as required by federal law because she can wait 20 days before being fined.

“The committee allows 30 days before fining. The lawmaker will file soon, “Lauren Hitt, Ocasio-communications Cortez’s director, said Tuesday.

Ocasio-Cortez warned in April that lawmakers’ finances threaten American democracy. As of Wednesday morning, nearly all House members have filed their 2021 financial declarations. The House Clerk’s website has the disclosures.

Ocasio-Cortez is one of 10 House members who haven’t filed their 2021 financial report. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) and outgoing Rep. Peter Meijer haven’t filed yet (R-MI).

Ocasio- Cortez’s fee for filing her financial disclosure more than 30 days late is $200. The politician has used the 30-day grace period to defer publicly disclosing her finances before. Ocasio-Cortez filed her 2019 financial statement 30 days late, avoiding House Ethics Committee penalties.

Paul Kamenar, an attorney for the conservative National Legal and Policy Center, called her a habitual offender. “I wonder whether she files her taxes late.”

Kamenar said that just like AOC did in 2020 when she filed her 2019 disclosure report 30 days late following the 90-day extension, she’s at it again. Ocasio-Cortez’s flippant approach toward reporting her funds contradicts her claims about her colleagues.

She has called on Congress to ban stock trading, claiming that even the notion that officials trade on insider knowledge threatens democracy.

She said we are facing a crisis of faith in our institutions in the U.S. We must eradicate the idea of impropriety because it can be used to undermine our most holy institutions, says the hypocrite.

Ocasio-Cortez said her net worth was between $3,000 and $45,000 by 2020. She has no stocks.

Kamenar indicated Ocasio-2021 Cortez’s declaration could be delayed due to ethical concerns over her Met Gala attire, which said “Tax the Rich.”

The NLPC complained to the Office of Congressional Ethics in September 2021 that Ocasio-Cortez accepted prohibited gifts relating to the event, including the designer dress she wore, limo transportation, and hairdressing fees. Kamenar said MPs must declare legal and illegal gifts in annual financial disclosure statements.

Ocasio-Cortez was renominated Tuesday after running unopposed in the primary. Her heavily blue district should make reelection easy in November.
