(NewsGlobal.com)- Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke at the Tenth Moscow Conference on International Security to defense officials and regional think tank analysts, according to Summit News. He made a series of remarks on the ongoing war in Ukraine and China-U.S. relations, including NATO, saying that the treaty is moving “further east.”
“Western globalist elites are provoking chaos by rekindling old and inciting new conflicts, implementing a policy of so-called containment, while undermining any alternative, sovereign paths of development,” he said criticizing the West for what he claimed was expansionism regarding NATO. “Thus, they are desperately trying to preserve the hegemony and power that are slipping out of their grasp, trying to keep countries and peoples in the grip of a neo-colonial order.”
He then said that Russia had been trying to negotiate NATO non-expansion for 30 years but to no avail, as it is approaching the country’s borders even closer. He added that the United States employs a series of tactics to “force independent states to submit to their will.”
Putin attributed the overthrow of “pro-Russian” President Viktor Yanukovych as the beginning of hostilities with Ukraine which both Europe and the United States were behind. The West rejects this narrative, however. He claims that Moscow submitted “security guarantees” to NATO but his requests were ignored and, as a result, the Ukrainian people are being used as “cannon fodder” for its proxy war.
Putin also sided with Beijing over Nancy Pelosi’s recent trip to Taiwan, reiterating the CCP’s stance that her visit escalated tensions in the region and added “fuel to the fire” over the Taiwan issue. The two countries have become closer since the start of Russia’s war on Ukraine, with China accusing the U.S. as instigating the war.
“The American reckless gamble in relation to Taiwan is not just a visit by an individual irresponsible politician, but part of a purposeful, conscious US strategy to destabilize… the situation in the region and the world,” Putin said.
