Just when you thought the Olympics could not get any crazier, along comes legendary hip hop artist Dr. Dre. The co-founder of Death Row records and the mainstay of the group NWA says he wants to compete at the 2028 Olympics as an archer.
Yes, the kind that shoots arrows with a bow.
Dr. Dre is also famous for discovering Eminem, the most famous and successful white rapper in the world, along with 50 Cent, among numerous other business projects that have made him a billionaire. So why not become an Olympic archer?
The rapper says he has it in him. Saying that he was “dead-a** serious,” Dre told media he’s going to the tryouts for the 2028 games. They’ll be held in his back yard of Los Angeles.
Dre said he first took up the sport in junior high school, but dropped it for a long time until his son set him up again with some equipment. He’s been practicing in the back yard.
It would be another feather in an already very full cap. Dre has his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame as of March 2024, alone with nine Grammy awards under his belt.
He would be up against some stiff competition, presumably, as archery seems to be one Olympic sport that has not been taken over by narcissistic and performative social justice warriors. Standouts in that category this year include a woman who calls herself “non-binary”, and dresses in a costume that’s her interpretation of The Incredible Hulk. Wearing a black stocking mask and sunglasses over her face with a purple leotard stretched over her ample frame, Saunders said she wants to encourage other women to join the sport of shot put.
The South Korean team really cleaned up at the archery events this year, taking the top medals in four categories: mens’ team, men’s individual, women’s individual, and mixed team. The U.S.’ Bradley Ellison and Case Kaufhold took home silver and bronze respectively in the mixed team competition.
