Reality TV star Kathryn Dennis was arrested this past Monday for driving under the influence, which resulted in a multi-car accident in South Carolina. Kathryn Dennis is most famous for her role on the hit reality TV show, Southern Charm. Southern Charm is a Bravo Network series that covers the daily lives of bible-belt families with family wealth that stems from generations before.
On Monday, May 20th, authorities arrested Dennis in Goose Creek, South Carolina. Dennis had just been involved in a three-car collision just before her arrest. When Goose Creek police arrived at the accident scene, officers assessed the reality TV star. One officer filed a report stating that Dennis was impaired with “glossy eyes”, as well as smelling of alcohol. Police also found an open container of alcohol inside Dennis’ vehicle, implying that she had been drinking and driving. In the state of South Carolina, it is illegal to have an open container of alcohol unless it is stored in the trunk or luggage compartment of the vehicle. Dennis will now have to face a lengthy legal battle if she is to fight her charges in court.
TMZ reported that this is Dennis’ first DUI offense, but not her first run-in with the law regarding substance abuse issues. In November of 2023, Dennis was identified as a suspect in an elementary school hit-and-run case. In the past, the southern reality TV star has been open about her struggles with substance abuse. She previously lost all custody of her two children which she co-parents with her ex-husband, Thomas Ravenel, who also starred in the reality show. The 32-year-old had previously tested positive for marijuana and was forced to enter a rehabilitation program along with losing custody of her children.
Dennis met Ravenel through the TV series where they become an on-again, off-again couple before calling it quits for good in 2016. Ravenel now has full custody of their children.
