(NewsGlobal.com)- On Monday, Twitter’s new owner, billionaire Elon Musk, remarked on the question many have been asking since Musk first announced he was buying Twitter, namely will former President Trump be returning?
In a tweet, Musk suggested that if he got a dollar every time he was asked if Trump is returning, “Twitter would be minting money.”
Before finalizing his acquisition of Twitter last week, Musk had frequently suggested that he would reinstate the former president’s account which was permanently banned after the January 6 riot in 2021.
But reinstating Trump could have negative consequences.
The Wall Street Journal last week reported that several top Twitter advertisers planned to sever ties with Twitter if Musk restores Trump’s account.
Musk’s purge of top executives at Twitter, along with his shutting out staff from its “Trust and Safety” division which oversaw most of the platform’s censorship efforts have caused panic and consternation among the blue check “journalists” fearful that Twitter will become a hotbed of “hate speech” and “misinformation.”
Whether Trump would return to Twitter if his ban is lifted remains to be seen.
In a recent post at Truth Social, Trump said he was happy Twitter is “now in sane hands” and will not be controlled by “Radical Left Lunatics and Maniacs that truly hate our country.”
The former president suggested that Musk purge Twitter of “bots and fake accounts,” adding that doing so might make it “much smaller, but better.”
Trump also heaped on praise for his Truth Social platform, claiming it has become a “phenomena” [sic] with “bigger numbers” than TikTok, Twitter, and Facebook. That isn’t accurate, but it’s Trump; he tends to exaggerate.
As to whether Musk reinstates Trump’s account, that will have to wait a while.
On Friday, Musk tweeted that Twitter would be forming a “content moderation council” consisting of people with “widely diverse viewpoints.” Musk explained that no account reinstatements will be decided until after this council convenes.
