Elon Musk has promised an unveiling of the all-new Tesla Roadster this year. Musk has hinted at revolutionary characteristics, such as a 0-60 mph time of less than one second. Many in the car business eagerly anticipate releasing this bold claim.
According to Elon Musk, the production-ready two-seater electric sports vehicle known as the second-generation Roadster will be launched late in 2024. The American electric car manufacturer said on X that the Roadster hinted at many significantly enhanced design objectives for the EV.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has said that the next Roadster would be unlike any other, downplaying the significance of the vehicle’s remarkable acceleration. Thanks to the joint development with SpaceX, the vehicle’s production design will be finished by the end of the year, and deliveries are scheduled for 2025.
Nothing is known about the Roadster’s electric engine at this time, although all-wheel drive is likely to be standard, according to Car & Driver. The Roadster should include the same configuration as Tesla’s standard EV models, which use two motors. One is at the front and another at the back to drive all four wheels. Tesla may be working on a unique configuration for the Roadster that utilizes a maximum of four electric motors, one for each wheel.
Reports show if the Roadster manages to reach the 0-60mph target set by Tesla’s CEO, it will cement its position as the fastest-accelerating road automobile in the world.
The current record holder is the electric Rimac Nevera, priced at $2.5 million and can reach 62 mph in 1.85 seconds.
Musk has previously said that problems in the supply chain were to blame for the second-generation Roadster’s delayed release, and that developments in Tesla’s tri-motor powertrain and advances in battery technology were also to blame. Musk didn’t disclose the price when he commented on the sports car’s performance.
A decade ago, he predicted that the Roadster would cost around $250,000—just a tenth of Rimac’s Nevera EV hypercar.
