USAID Security Officials Suspended Amid Controversy

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has found itself at the center of a political storm as two high-ranking security officials were placed on administrative leave. The Director of Security and his Deputy were suspended after refusing to grant access to secure systems to employees of Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

Trump and Musk are seriously getting to work.

The incident has sparked concerns about the handling of classified information and personal data within the agency. DOGE employees sought access to USAID systems containing personnel files, security systems, and classified information, despite lacking proper security clearance.

The controversy is part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to scrutinize and potentially restructure federal agencies. USAID, which manages billions in assistance across over 100 countries, has been particularly targeted. The administration has frozen foreign assistance and shut down many of USAID’s programs, significantly impacting its international humanitarian operations.

“USAID is a criminal organization. Time for it to die,” Elon Musk said.

Yikes!

President Trump has expressed support for Musk’s actions, too, criticizing USAID as being run by “radical lunatics.” The President’s backing has emboldened DOGE’s efforts to access sensitive information across multiple government agencies.

Concerns Over Unauthorized Access

The suspension of USAID’s security officials has raised alarms among Democrats and agency staff. Senator Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., voiced her concerns, stating, “Reports that individuals without appropriate clearance may have accessed classified USAID spaces as well as American citizens’ personal information are incredibly serious and unprecedented.”

Despite initial resistance, DOGE succeeded in accessing USAID’s internal systems, including critical databases and financial management software. This unauthorized access has left many USAID employees allegedly feeling unsafe and surveilled.

They’re about to unveil a treasure trove of corruption.

But in the meantime, the turmoil at USAID has already had far-reaching consequences. The agency’s website has gone offline, and many employees have been fired or furloughed following a freeze on U.S. global assistance.

“The warp-speed of this mafia-like takeover has shaken USAID staff to the core,” a senior official for the agency said.

That sounds like a good thing, doesn’t it?
