Trump’s Lawsuit and Settlement Demands

President Donald Trump has escalated his ongoing battle with mainstream media by filing a $10 billion lawsuit against CBS. The lawsuit stems from a “60 Minutes” interview with Vice President Kamala Harris, which Trump claims was edited to favor the Democrats and interfere with election outcomes. Now, sources indicate that Trump is seeking a settlement surpassing $100 million to resolve the dispute.

The lawsuit alleges that CBS’s editing of the Harris interview was biased and misleading. In response, CBS released unedited transcripts of the October interview, maintaining that their editing practices are guided by truth and the constraints of broadcast television. However, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has requested CBS to provide additional transcripts and clips of the interview for further investigation.

CBS has staunchly defended its editorial practices – as you would expect – stating that the broadcast was not altered deceitfully. A spokesperson for the network emphasized their commitment to journalistic integrity, saying, “In making these edits, ’60 Minutes’ is always guided by the truth and what we believe will be most informative to the viewing public, all while working within the constraints of broadcast television.”

But they’re still going to cough up…

Despite CBS’s defense, its parent company Paramount Global finds itself in a precarious position. The media conglomerate is reportedly in settlement talks with Trump while simultaneously seeking approval for a crucial $8 billion merger with Skydance Media. This merger is under scrutiny by the FCC, which is investigating “news distortion” allegations against CBS News.

Trump’s Legal Strategy and Previous Settlements

Trump’s demand for a settlement exceeding $100 million fits into his established pattern of litigation against media companies. The President has previously settled with ABC for $16 million and Meta for $25 million. These past successes likely embolden Trump’s current strategy against CBS.

“This was election changing ‘stuff’, election interference and, quite simply election fraud at a level never seen before. CBS should lose its license,” Trump said.

Trump’s legal team has not yet proposed a specific settlement amount to CBS, but sources suggest it could be $100 million or more. The former president’s negotiation tactics, as demonstrated in his dealings with ABC, involve strategic increases in settlement demands. In that case, Trump initially agreed to a $15 million settlement before increasing it to include an additional $1 million in legal fees.

This lawsuit underscores a larger agenda of challenging media neutrality and journalistic practices. Trump’s attorney, Ed Paltzik, emphasized the broader implications of the case, stating, “Real accountability for CBS and Paramount will ensure that the President is compensated for the harm done to him, and will deter the Fake News from further distorting the facts to advance a partisan agenda.”

The media keeps refusing to admit they did anything wrong, but they keep paying out huge sums to Trump…

They should just stop being biased and it would be much cheaper for them.
