Irani added that they established three oceanic commands: the Indian Ocean Command, the Pacific Ocean Command, and the Atlantic Ocean Command. They are currently present in the Indian and Atlantic oceans and soon in the Pacific Ocean.
A report shows the Center for a Secure Free Society (SFS) executive director, Joseph Humire, explained that Iran’s goal has always been to have a military presence in Latin America. So it’s not surprising for its navy to announce it will make moves on the Panama Canal. If this happens, it will be a massive escalation. The Iranian government has made inroads into South America; in June, Iran and Venezuela signed a 20-year strategic cooperation agreement. Iran and Nicaragua signed a similar treaty in December.
